Tour Itinerary
08:30 – Depart the hotel in Eilat , drive to the Eilat mountain range, for a short hike through the Red Canyon – a beautiful canyon quarried by floods through the amazing sandstone rocks of the Eilat Mountains. The name “Red Canyon” derives from the color of the sandstone that makes up the cliff walls, which have been painted red by the deposits of iron and other minerals. The short hike meanders through the canyon, climbing up and down some of the walls and waterfalls.
After the hike we proceed further northwards to the Timna Park. This amazingly beautiful park covers a large area of nearly 15,000 dunams and is home to fantastic geological formations, such as the mushroom rock and King Solomon’s Pillars, as well as a lake fed by the salty waters of a natural aquifer. We will also visit the archeological remnants of an Egyptian temple dedicated to the goddess Hathor – goddess of mining, in keeping with the historical use of Mt. Timna, situated at the center of the park, for mining copper, dating back to ancient Egyptian times. Due its size, touring will be in the vehicles, with stops at the various sites.
We leave the park and drive back to Eilat where we stop for lunch. After lunch we will visit the famous underwater observatory situated 6 meters under the sea in the heart of the magnificent coral reef, so you can observe it in its natural setting. In addition there is a magnificent display of the various types of fish that inhabit the reef, as well as a sharks’ aquarium, in which sharks and other species co-exist in perfect harmony.
We end the tour with a visit to the Taba crossing – on the Egyptian border.
Return to the hotel by 18:00.
